Manchester Football Therapy was started from one belief: that getting out on the pitch, being around people, and playing the game you love can genuinely change how you feel.

We are not a clinic. We are a community — people from all walks of life who show up and leave feeling better than when they arrived. No leagues, no performance pressure, no judgement on ability.

Whether you have been struggling with your mental health, fallen out of the routine of exercise, or simply miss a good game with good people — there is a place here for you.

Spaces are limited and booked via weekly poll in our WhatsApp group. Join to secure your spot. All sessions on 3G turf — astro or moulded studs only, no metal studs. Bibs and balls provided.

How it works

THE METHOD

ROUTINE AS RECOVERY

Showing up consistently — even when you don’t feel like it — is the first act of self-care. MFT gives you an anchor in your week and a structure that quietly builds resilience.

MOVEMENT AS MEDICINE

Sixty minutes of physical activity is not nothing. The evidence for exercise and mental health is overwhelming. No gym membership, no fitness level required.

COMMUNITY AS CURE

Isolation compounds everything. Being around people reduces anxiety and lifts mood. The MFT group understands what it means to need a good week.

NO PRESSURE. NO EGO.

We keep it explicitly non-competitive. Every ability is genuinely welcome. The session only works when everyone feels safe — so we actively build and protect that environment.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Who can join?+
Anyone aged 18 and over. All abilities, all backgrounds, all fitness levels. Whether you played as a kid or have never been near a pitch — you are welcome at MFT.
Is this actually therapy?+
Not in the clinical sense. We are a football group built around mental wellbeing — using movement, routine, and community as tools. We do not replace professional support.
Do I need to book in advance?+
Yes — spaces are limited and filled first come, first served via a weekly poll in our WhatsApp group. Join the group and you will be notified when the poll opens each week.
What does it cost?+
Sunday and Thursday sessions are £4. Wednesday at Fallowfield is £5. No membership fee, no sign-up cost. We keep it affordable so the benefit is accessible to everyone.
What do I need to bring?+
Boots for 3G (astro or moulded studs — no metal) and a bottle of water. Bibs and balls are provided. If you don’t have boots, come anyway and we will sort it.
Can I come alone?+
Most people do the first time. Walking into something new on your own is the hardest part. We make sure you feel part of the group from the moment you arrive.
